Literature has long served as a source of inspiration for visual art, allowing artists to transform written narratives into expressive visual experiences. William Shakespeare's fairy song "Over Hill, Over Dale" from A Midsummer Night’s Dream presents an enchanting world filled with movement, nature, magic, and delicate imagery. The poem describes a fairy wandering through hills, valleys, forests, water, and fire while carrying out her duties for the Fairy Queen. Its rich descriptions of dew drops, flowers, moonlight, and fairy life offer strong visual possibilities that can be explored through painting. However, despite the poem's vivid imagery, its visual nterpretation through contemporary painting remains relatively unexplored. Many artistic studies focus on Shakespeare's dramatic characters and theatrical narratives, while comparatively little attention has been given to the visualization of his lyrical and poetic passages. Existing visual representations often emphasize fantasy illustration rather than exploring the emotional atmosphere, symbolic meanings, and aesthetic beauty contained within the text. As a result, there exists an opportunity to investigate how painting can translate the sensory and imaginative qualities of Shakespeare's fairy song into a meaningful visual language. This study aimed to create a series of paintings inspired by the poem Over Hill, Over Dale, exploring its themes of wonder, nature, movement, and enchantment through visual art. For this purpose, literary research was conducted to understand the symbolic and narrative elements of the poem. Visual references related to fairy folklore, natural landscapes, botanical forms, and fantasy-inspired imagery were collected and analyzed to develop suitable compositions, color palettes, and artistic approaches for the painting series. The findings suggested that painting can effectively transform poetic language into visual experiences that communicate emotion, atmosphere, and imagination. The study highlighted the potential of fine art as a medium for interpreting literary texts and expanding their meaning through visual expression. Overall, the project demonstrated that Shakespeare's fairy song can be successfully reimagined through painting, creating a body of work that celebrates the beauty of nature, the mystery of fairy folklore, and the enduring relationship between literature and visual art.
